Around the Blogosphere – Week in Review
By JLP | January 13, 2006
Well, it’s Friday again and time for the 2nd edition of Around the Blogosphere (I don’t know why, but I like the word “blogosphere”) My friend Jim at Blueprint for Financial Prosperity asks an important question: What’s Your Five Year Plan?
Personally, it is scary to me to think that in just five years, I will have a 15 year-old son, 14-year old son, and a 6-year old daughter (and possibly another baby too). I’ll be as old as FMF! HOLY MOLY! Finacially speaking, we should be in pretty good shape by then. We will be out of debt except for a car note and mortgage, which I am fine with. We should also have a pretty significant amount in retirement plans and savings accounts. I haven’t actually done the math that far out but I know that we aren’t taking on any more debt and we are getting rid of the debt that we do have. Anyway, it is a good topic to be thinking about.
Should you rent or buy a house? That’s a really good question. Flexo at ConsumerismCommentary looks at a recent column by Liz Pulliam Weston in his post Buying vs. Renting a House. I think it all depends on the price, how much you can afford, and how long you are going to stay there.
Should you buy individual stocks and bonds or should you go for mutual funds? Good question and one that Nickel looks at in Stocks & Bonds vs. Mutual Funds.
FreeMoneyFinance look at how to become a millionaire in part 7 ofHow to Become a Milllionaire. Pretty much anybody can become a millionaire. My advice is to start young.
How do you budget for big expenses? Jonathan at MyMoneyBlog looks at Smoothing Out Your Cashflow. I have to say it is a question I never really thought about.
Finally, my friend Ramit at I Will Teach You to be Rich began his series 2006 Makeover with Step #1: Get Your Accounts in Order. It looks like this is going to be an interesting series.
That’s it for this week. If you are a blogger and you feel like you have a post worth mentioning, send me an email and let me know about it.
