Okay Now This is Stupid!

I saw this article about Oakland’s litter problem on the CNN/Money website. In order to combat the problem, the Oakland City Council is proposing a tax on fast food restaurants, convenience stores, gas stations and liquor stores so that they can hire help to clean up after their slobby citizens. I got to say that this is the most bone-headed legislation I have ever heard of. I say start fining people $1,000 every time they are caught littering. I bet the problem would go away quickly.

The key to the fines is enforcement. The cops have to be willing to write the ticket. Such is the downfall of fines…

This could really help unemployment… just think.
Maybe just hire trash attendants to fine them, like parking meter people.

Jane Brunner, the author of this proposal, is my councilwoman…I’m so proud! She is a typical Northern California liberal, never met a tax she didn’t like.
