Find Out What Your Home is Worth with Zillow
By JLP | February 8, 2006
Zillow.com launches today. It is a website that allows you lookup the value of your home without requiring you to give out personal information. According to Walter Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal, “Zillow uses data such as tax records, sales history and the actual prices of “comparables” – homes in your area that are similar to yours – to come up with an estimate, which it calls a “Zestimate.”" I just tried to use it but the site told me that they were doing maintenance. My guess is that they are getting swamped. You may want to wait until later to give it a try.

Looks like they got “/.ed” with all of the publicity. Hope they are back up soon. Looks pretty cool.

Well, I just tried putting my house in zillow.com to see what it’s value would be. I got an answer of $2.6 million. Only off by about a factor of 10! Then I looked at the Google Earth map of the US with state’s values shown on it. It shows the avg. value of houses in Utah as $1.07 million, double the value of California. If only it were so. Looks like they need to do some work on it.
