Friday Update

By JLP | February 10, 2006

Now I guess it’s my daughter’s turn to get sick. She woke up yesterday morning with a fever. My wife was home and we kept our daughter home. My usual way of handling sickness is to watch them the first day and if they still feel bad, take them to the doctor the next day. Well, her fever got a lot worse at night and was approaching 105, which freaked me and my wife out. So, at around 9:30, we loaded her up in the car and headed to the ER. There we sat and sat and sat. Someone finally took us back to check her vitals and they gave her a dose of Tylenol. We sat back down for probably 2 hours. Finally, at about 1:00 AM I told my wife that we should take her home and that we could take her to the doctor this morning.

We just got home from the doctor’s office. He said she has some redness in her throat and some fluid in her ears. They gave her a shot of something and now we are home. If her fever stays high throughout the day, we are supposed to call back and then he might have her admitted to the hospital. I hope it doesn’t come to that.

From the looks of the ER waiting room last night and the doctor’s waiting room this morning, there’s lots of something going around.

Sorry to hear that. 105 fever is not good. Hope she recovers soon.

ER rooms are ussually not too good, at least in small hospitals. Ussually they have an intern that hasn’t slept in 30 hours, and doesn’t know what to do. They are good at fixing bones, and sewing bleeding injuries, but not too good at diagnosing internal issues.

    Hope she recovers soon.
