The New Spam Comment
By JLP | February 27, 2006
I have been receiving a different kind of spam comment lately. It reads like this:
“How do I subscribe to your feed?”
I know it is spam because if this person knows what a feed is, then they know how to subscribe to it. Stupid!
I have a feeling that spam isn’t going away. I have also noticed that some spam is slipping through my Spam Karma filter. Oh well, I guess it just comes with the territory.

Yep, they’re getting smarter.
I just installed SK2 on my blog. I don’t get that many comments per day, so it may not be worth it yet. We’ll see how it works.

Ever consider installing a captcha field (those little images of a word the user must type in to confirm their humanity)? Most comment spam I’ve seen is automated and captchas work well against those. But if you’re getting manually inputed spam comments, then a captcha probably won’t help.

Well ok, if you’re receiving a lot of these questions, it’s probably. But there are a few people like me who just figured out how to set up a newsreader type thing (don’t know what it is really called. Subscribing to feeds was easy, but I had no idea how to set up the reader. Glad I didn’t ask you.
