Would Savings Incentives for Working Poor Work?

By JLP | March 6, 2006

In the past, I wrote about a program to help the working poor save money. It seems like these programs may be getting more popular (at least that’s the impression I’m getting from this article in the Baltimore Sun).

I believe that there are people who need help. It’s just a fact of life. I like programs like these because they HELP rather than PROP UP. In order for a person to move from being poor to having something, they have to be the one in charge. If they aren’t in charge, the program won’t work. I really respect the woman in the Baltimore Sun article because she is making the CHOICE to save. Sure it’s not easy, but I have the feeling that this is doing wonders for her self-esteem.
