I am constantly astounded by the things I hear and I'm afraid for teens that don't understand the importance of keeping receipts and reconciling statements. When I completed the taxes for one young lady she asked, "How will I know when my refund is deposited into my account?". I told her that when she balances her checkbook at the end of the month, she would be able to see on her statement or she might look on-line if she had internet banking. She told me that she "had tried several times to balance her checkbook and gave up because it never matched what the bank said she had in the account"! I hope that we can all make financial literacy for youth a priority in the coming year.
