Why did you buy the stocks in the first place? Was it following careful research, a stock tip, a hunch, or what? 2. If you didn't do careful research before buying, don't make the same mistake twice. Do careful research now and figure out whether you should sell or not. 3. If you did do careful research in the first place, has anything changed that would have invalidated the decision to buy? There are other questions you should ask, perhaps to a planner if you are no longer comfortable with the do-it-yourself approach. But these are a good foundation to the hold/sell decision process. You should also be asking yourself the following questions:
