Just When You Think Cars Can’t Get Any Uglier…
By JLP | April 13, 2006
You see this…

Click on the picture, which will take you to the New York International Auto Show website.
A little better-looking is the 2007 Nissan Altima, which made its debut at the NY Auto Show:

Although they don’t look too bad from this view, I’m not so sure I like the massive tail lights. I mean, who needs to see all that from the side? Other than that, I think it looks pretty good.

What is it with these Scions? They look like bricks on wheels. Has no one a care for aerodynamics?

What’s the deal with Detroit?? They build good cars, but they are always just a couple of years behind the curve on looks. We in the US have the most innovative engineers and designers, yet we can’t get these designs out in time to out-maneuver Japan or Europe. Why??? Bureaucracy? GM is too busy being creative about ways to pay healthcare rather then design cars?

American cars are simply going downhill quickly. Although I must admit whoever designed the Honda Element should be fired.

That top one looks like a little white school bus.

Wow. That’s, um, really, REALLY ugly. I thought PT Cruisers set a record low that wouldn’t be broken for some time. Clearly, I was wrong.

MoneyDummy,
You don’t like the PT Cruiser? I like it! I think it is cool-looking.

Saw an article a few months ago about novelty cars like the PT Cruiser. They were cool for a second (about 4 years ago), and now look dated. People driving them used to be making the statement, “I’m hip and had some extra cash lying around, so I bought one of these.”
Now they say, “I’m too poor for something new and sporty, but my rich neighbor gave me a great deal on his out-dated PT.”
It reminds me of the horrible aqua color that cars came in at the end of the ’80s. Cool for a few minutes, and now the bell-bottoms of paint jobs.

I believe Nissan’s design team is from California. So the talent is here, some are just being employed by Japanese companies…
It’s funny all the American cars I like are based on old designs – like the Mustang GT
