Finally!

By JLP | May 16, 2006

According to this story in the StarTribune, the IRS has revoked the nonprofit status of 41 credit couseling services. It’s about time!

This statement in the article says it all:

The IRS probe is a wake-up call to consumers: Just because an organization is a nonprofit doesn’t mean they have clients’ best interests at heart.

Most people do not need the “help” of a credit counseling agency. Instead, they need a plan and they need to contact their creditors and arrange payment plans. For those who must use a credit counseling service, make sure it is a member of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling.
