JLP’s QotD - How Many Music CDs do You Own?

By JLP | June 7, 2006

This is a bit off topic but it does have to do with personal finance because the little things that we buy can add up to significant amounts of money over the years. So, today’s Question of the Day is:

How many music CDs do you own?

Although I haven’t counted them in a while, I know I have around 900. Wow! It pains me to write that because 900 seems a bit excessive. Now before you go running calculations on how much I spent, keep in mind that I RARELY pay even close to full price for a CD. I normally buy my music through BMG and I utilize their special of buy 1 get 3 free. That cuts the cost per CD down significantly. So, although 900 CDs is bad, it isn’t as bad as it could be.

UPDATE: this part was added after I saw Michael’s post.

Oh, and thanks to Michael over at MusingMoney for his idea of adding a little “facts” to his post:

First CD I Remember Purchasing: U2 - Achtung Baby - Still a GREAT disc!

My First CD Player: Fisher bookshelf system that my parents bought my wife and me for a wedding gift.

I Have More [Insert Artist Here] CDs Than Any Other Artist: Pat Metheny Group and Spyro Gyra

# of CDs Purchased in Last 5 Years: 200+

# of Popular Music (Rock, etc.) CDs Purchased in Last 5 Years: Less than 5

I Am One of the Four People Who Bought Multiple CDs By: Dream Academy (actually, these were cassettes)

My Spouse Hates But I Still Love: Again, Dream Academy - if you have never listened to them, give them a chance!

You know, maybe I should start a music blog!
