My Problem with Classmates.com
By JLP | June 7, 2006
Have you guys ever checked out Classmates.com? It is a networking site for classmates. About 30 of my classmates from my high school graduating class are listed. I would like to contact some of them to catch up on what has been going on in their lives. There’s just one problem: Classmates charges $39 per year for full access to their website. I’m sorry but $39 per year seems a bit excessive to me. I would think they would do much better if they dropped the price down to a more reasonable $10 per year. I bet a ton more people would sign up. At the current $39 price, I bet they don’t have many takers.
I was a paid member several years back when they charged $19 for a TWO-year membership. When that term came up for renewal they sent me a renewal notice saying the new membership price was $39 for ONE year. I haven’t been a member since.

I’m surprised Classmates.com charges that much, with the popularity of Myspace and Friendster, which are free. I never became a paid member, since I’m already friends with anyone who I cared to keep in contact with after HS.

Classmates is super annoying! It’s amazing that they make any money (and I bet they make out like bandits)
