Yahoo! Answers’ Ask the Planet 2006

By JLP | June 13, 2006

Here’s something kind of interesting that I found out about today. Yahoo! Answers is kicking off Ask the Planet 2006, which is a big promotional effort to tell people about Yahoo! Answers.

I was just on the website and thought it was pretty cool. Personal finance bloggers may want to take a stab at answering some of the questions in the Personal Finance section.

For more information, you can read this press release I received:

NEWS RELEASE

YAHOO! SETS OUT TO ANSWER THE WORLD’S BIGGEST QUESTIONS WITH “ASK THE PLANET 2006” CAMPAIGN

Yahoo! Answers Campaign Kicks-Off with the World’s Biggest Brain in Times Square, and Ends With the World’s Biggest Question, asked by Bono
New York, NY, June 13, 2006 – Yahoo! sets out to answer the world’s biggest questions with its “Ask the Planet 2006” campaign kicking off today with an unveiling of the world’s biggest brain, a two-story terrarium built on top of the Hard Rock Café Marquee in Times Square at 7:30 AM ET. Yahoo! Answers, http://answers.yahoo.com, a new Web site for consumers where anyone can ask and answer questions on any topic, has reached over 15 million answers since its recent debut in December 2005. The Ask the Planet 2006 campaign seeks answers from online users to help answer the world’s biggest questions from celebrities, world-renowned authorities, and Yahoo! users. The campaign includes a three-day event in Times Square from June 13-15, print and radio ads, and an online marketing campaign. Consumers can visit Yahoo!, www.yahoo.com, and search on “Ask the Planet” for more details on how to participate.

“Yahoo! Answers is helping consumers find, use, share, and expand their knowledge and life experience with others online and creating a new way to search for information on the Web,” said Cammie Dunaway, chief marketing officer at Yahoo!. “We want to celebrate the success of Yahoo! Answers with our users around the world by kicking it off with a fun, creative campaign and by giving back to the communities that are contributing to the next generation of search.”

Ask the Planet 2006 Event in New York City

The Yahoo! Answers Ask the Planet 2006 event will feature a two-story terrarium that will accommodate twenty-two “Brainiacs,” composed of selected Yahoo! Answers users that were chosen through an online submission process. The gigantic purple brain, complete with firing synapses and lobes, will sit atop the world famous marquee of the Hard Rock Café, overlooking Times Square. The Brainiacs will work from within the brain in shifts throughout the three days, as they set out to answer the world’s most pressing questions, along with other Yahoo! Answers users around the world.

During the event, passersby will be able to stop by Military Island in Times Square, directly across from the brain, and use PCs available for users to ask or answer any questions on Yahoo! Answers. Users from around the world will be able to watch the Brainiacs live via Webcast coverage and view Flickr photos taken of the world’s biggest brain by visiting Yahoo! at www.yahoo.com, and searching on “Ask the Planet.”

The event will also feature special appearances by guest celebrities, including world- renowned leader in the field of mind body medicine Deepak Chopra, M.D., nationally- syndicated political columnist Arianna Huffington, and executive chef and restaurateur of one of the best known restaurant brands in the nation, including Olive’s, Todd English.

Ask the Planet 2006 Featured Questions of the Day, June 13 – July 10

Today, Marilyn Vos Savant, famous author and known for the world’s “highest IQ” according to the Guinness Book of World Records Hall of Fame, will post the “Featured Question” of the day on Yahoo! Answers. She asks, “What can parents do to help children reach their potential in school?” Other celebrities scheduled to appear on Yahoo! Answers during the campaign include world-renowned theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, former Vice President Al Gore and 2006 Time 100 stand-up comedian Dane Cook. The last big question on Yahoo! Answers will be asked by Bono.

Ask the Planet 2006 Advertising Campaign

The Ask the Planet 2006 advertising campaign launches today with features in USA Today as well as radio ads through July 7. Yahoo! will also dedicate its corporate sponsorships, placements and billboards across the country to the campaign. Additionally, Yahoo! Answers will be featured on the front page of Yahoo!, www.yahoo.com, and integrated across all products highlighting the big question of the day.

Ask the Planet 2006 Nonprofit Donation

Over the course of the three-day event in Times Square, Yahoo! Answers will tally the “best answers” and, once it has reached 50,000, Yahoo! will donate a check for $50,000 to the American Museum of Natural History in New York for OLogy, www.OLogy.amnh.org, a Web site that engages children ages seven through twelve in the study of science.

Additionally, throughout the campaign, users can go to http://answers.yahoo.com daily to ask and answer questions. Users with the “best answer” will be entered into a sweepstakes for fabulous prizes to be rewarded at the end of the campaign.

Actually Yahoo did have more information about the Chinese government’s investigation into journalist Shi Tao than it had let on. But if you like to trade with China, you have even more choice in getting the informations.
1.Baidu in China is like Google in the US. Keywords advertisement on Baidu in China has been proven to be as effective as keyword advertisement on Google in the US. If you had to choose
one search engine to advertise in China, you should choose Baidu
2.AmeriChinaB2B Inc, which runs the most visited US-China business to business (B2B) web platforms, now offers services to enable US businesses to advertise on Baidu.com. These services will help US businesses export to China, the world’s fastest growing market. For more information, please check: http://www.acb2b.com and http://www.acb2b.cn
