Why Don’t Technorati Tags Work With WordPress?
By JLP | July 7, 2006
Since switching over to WordPress nearly a year ago, I have noticed that I hardly ever get a referral from Technorati. I used to get them all the time with my old blog. I think it has to do with the fact that Technorati will not read tags. Of course, I haven’t tagged every blog entry, which could be part of the problem. However, I don’t think matters because I tagged a couple of posts in the past as an experiment and noticed that those posts do not show up in Technorati!
So, what’s the deal? Does Technorati not work with WordPress?

Are you pinging technorati when you post? I don’t believe that that is set up automatically with wordpress just yet.

Technorati should be reading your WP categories as tags. You may want to look into the ping issue.

Wordpress, by default, pings pingomatic and that’s it. I’m not sure if pingomatic touches technorati. There are some nice wp plugins for technorati that you should take a look at JLP.

I use WP2.0 and have gotten a few referrals from Technocrati, but I rel=”tag” all the relevant links in my posts pretty consistently. Maybe there’s an easier way to do it. I also have http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping setup on automatic in addition to pingomatic under Options >> Writing >> Update Services. Honestly, I’m not sure which (if either) is the key to getting technorati referrals.

I’m using WP 2.03 and I get quite a bit of Technorati traffic. I use the Bunny Tags plugin to tag all of my posts easily.

i use bunny tag too, but i don’t really get a significant traffic from technorati
