Emigrant Direct’s Website is Down

By JLP | July 24, 2006

The blogoshere is buzzing about Emigrant Direct’s website being down. This is bad news for them and for those who need to access their accounts right now. I’m sure it is nothing major but one would think that they would at the very least have some sort of message alerting visitors as to what is going on. Makes me happy that I went with GMAC Bank when I was looking for a bank.

From what Emigrant told us they are having a major security change and they are going to be down for the weekend. I got email and a mailing on this. They are also going to raise the rate to 5.15.

They are definatly the sketchiest of all the major interest givers. I think they are in a bit over their heads. When I had to email them to let them know their “Withdraw” links were not being displayed properly, I knew I was taking my chances.

Yes, Mark, that’s right. But they also promised that the site would be back up at 9AM today (Monday) and yet the site has been unstable/unreachable all day long.

I still can’t access my account… no response to my email after a day. I called during their phone hours and got a recording they were closed. I will likely close my account ASAP.

I guess everthing is working now since the bitchin’ has stopped? My account worked fine from Tuesday on. Guess you boys haven’t been through a major IT upgrade before.

According to Ms. Nicole Clark, supervisor at Emigrant Direct, she suggested that under the Internet Explorer tools bar, 1) Click “Internet Options”; 2) Click the “Advanced” Tab; 3) Insert a check mark in the “Disable script debugging” box.

I was able to use my work computer to schedule a transter out of my ED savings account into my external account. I will check the settings on my home computer later today.

Ms. Clark has restored my confidence w/ ED as she fulfilled her promise to get back to me on the same day that I called.

I am also worried about this situation… but glad to see that Don had a good experience today. I am still unable to access my account. This AM I was able to log in. It only lasted for about 10 seconds and then I got kicked out of the system. I will try Don’s method asap. Keep the updates rolling.

I have closed my account with Emigrant Direct. I was unable to make transfers over the past few days. Their customer service is woeful and inept. I was told on numerous occasions that someone would call back with an update on my problem. They should stick to bricks and mortar and steer clear of internet banking. Dreadful experience!

I believe I will close the account.

I can now access my account, however, no interest has been paid for July and my statement for July is not available yet. I called customer service yesterday and was told interest would be paid same day, it was not.

I have opened an account with HSBC and will move the $$ as soon as the account is authenticated.

It’s been all day now and I still cannot access the site fully, it either partially comes up, or just times out entirely. Completely unacceptable.

Their customer service is non-existant. The website was down and they didn’t bother notifying me.

I decided to transfer my money back to BofA but it said my transfer was rejected! Wow….

Going to call them on Monday, get my money out and close the account.
