The World’s Greatest Investors – Their Picks

By JLP | July 27, 2006

The cover story of the August issue of Smart Money is about The World’s Greatest Investors. It’s an interesting read. I always enjoy reading their recommendations. All of these stocks (although I’m not recommending them as I don’t offer advice on this blog), with the exception of DR Horton, seem like pretty solid companies. My problem with DR Horton is the current housing market, which seems to be cooling. Anyway, here are their picks along with the price that was listed in the magazine:

They take Buffett’s picks from Berkshire filings I suppose as he never comments about what he is investing in now any time the press call for comment.

I can only speculate that his actual ‘pick’ was GE, the other stocks likely were Lou Simpson’s (the guy that invests the float at GEICO) investments for that filing.

Simpson is no slouch as an investor, but it is probably in error to credit Buffett with these picks.

    Notes From Personal Finance Reading

I just started reading personal finance blogs and that sparked a few quick thoughts. David O’Reilly, head of Chevron, seems absolutely shocked that people drive faster than 55mph because it wastes so much gas. I’d kind of forgotten that’s a…
