Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3′s Annoying Habit

By JLP | August 4, 2006

I downloaded Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3 this afternoon and have been trying it out. For the most part, it seems pretty good EXCEPT for its annoying habit of inserting indents on my blog posts! At first I thought I was doing something until I viewed my blog using Firefox. So, the problem has to be some sort of glitch in Explorer 7, and since most of you are probably still using Explorer 6, I decided to do a screenshot so you can see what I’m talking about:

I’m sorry for the crude editing of the image. I could have done a better job but I didn’t want to spend a lot of time on it. Anyway, do you see the extra indents? There’s nothing I can do to prevent them and IT’S DRIVING ME NUTS!

I have emailed Microsoft to give them feedback on it.

    Check your CSS for this: .centreblock>p+p {text-indent: 30px;}

    Apparently IE7 actually supports child and adjacent sibling selectors (unlike IE6), and I’m surprised that FF isn’t picking it up.

    There we go again. I am a techie of sorts, and I hate the browser “diversity” because it makes the job of developers/software vendors hell. Having to account for all browser variations. It was just swell while IE 6.0 ruled the land for the last few years. Has 6.0 really been that bad to you people!? Yeah, I know … I’m kidding, of course. Sort of.

    drakar,

    Thanks! That fixed it!

    Vlad,

    Yeah, I hear what you’re saying. IE7 has some extras that Firefox has (like tabbed browsing, which to me is annoying because I’m not used to it.) Tabbed browsing along with Google toolbar and my Norton Anti-virus stuff, really crowds my toolbars!

    Progress isn’t all it’s cracked up to be!

    Hey JLP… can you check out my new design with Beta 3? I’ve only tested it with Beta 2 and Firefox… Send me an email if it looks messy. Thanks!
