More Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3 Frustration: Popup Blocker!

By JLP | August 5, 2006

Well, I found another annoying thing about Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3: the pop-up blocker! It blocks EVERYTHING even when I turn it off! For instance, while composing this post, I often use a pop-up window when inserting a link. When I click on the link tab that opens a popup window, I get the “pop-up blocked” warning.

To make matters worse, the ONLY option avaibable in the pop-up bar is “temporarily allow pop-ups.”

Temporarily allow mean that it will work for a few minutes and then I’ll get the pop-up warning again.

So, I went into my Pop-up Blocker settings in the IE7 Tools menu and turned the pop-up blocker off.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t matter either. I STILL get the pop-up warning message even with the pop-up filter off. I even tried adding my blog account to the safe list and it STILL DIDN’T WORK!

Normally, this wouldn’t be that big of a deal but when I temporarily allow pop-ups, it takes me to a new screen and then I have to start over with posting the link in my post. And, if I haven’t saved my post, I’ll lose it all! And, even if I save my post, I still have to go back and find where I want to insert the link and start all over again.

Anyway, I hope Microsoft works out a better solution because this currently SUCKS!

Seriously, try Firefox… I switched about 2 years ago and have no regrets.

You need to change the settings for the popup blocker. You probably have it set to “Block All Popups” when you should set it to “Block Most Automatic Popups”.

I don’t have any problem with the popup blocker at all. I’m having trouble relating to your frustration…

Firefox sucks! seriously just stay with IE6 for now. I use IE7 at work and it does this exactly same thing but for google mail. It’s beta, so what did you expect?

I agree with drew. Get rid of windows all otgether. They are always changing stuff to make life complicated. You should try linux. It is a hint of what windows (Microsoft) will do next and what mac is doing already…but tried to perfect it. Remember…Linux always comes first.

That is why it is called Beta, the software is not final and you install it to help them test it.
