Ramit Analyzes His Readers
By JLP | August 10, 2006
Ramit over at IWillTeachYoutobeRich.com has just posted the results of a survey he conducted with over 1,000 of his readers. It’s no surprise that the bulk of his readers are in the 22 – 26 year-old age group. Ramit has does an excellent job of know who his readers are and he writes his content accordingly. It does look like he needs to do a better job with the ladies as only 23% of his readers are women. Go to his blog to read the full results of his poll. It’s some interesting stuff.

Thanks for the mention. Some of the data completely surprised me (like the second-most-popular age group of my readers). And I completely agree about the gender disparity. I need to do a better job of reaching out equally to guys and girls.
That’s going to be one of my goals for the rest of the year.

I just left Ramit a comment- lol! It is sad that there are so few women who are interested in personal finance. That is why we started No Limits Ladies- to create a fun place for women to learn more about becoming financially free.

It’s not that women aren’t interested in finances. Perhaps his writing style and post topics don’t appeal to women.

Single Ma, due to personal experience
I am sorry to have to agree with prlinkbiz.
I realize it is anecdotal…

It’s probably a little of both. Women are less likely to enjoy investing, but I’m sure my blog’s name and articles have something to do with it, too.

Vlad are you a woman? Just asking because you said ‘personal experience.’ I know men who are happy just bringing home the bacon because they feel like they’re head of the household, but want nothing to do with how it’s managed. That’s from personal experience but I can’t deduce that to any assumptions about all men.

Maybe Vlad is talking about his wife?
My wife isn’t interested in personal finance but is very interested in our budget. She would NEVER cruise the internet or personal finance blogs looking for personal finance advice. Of course, that could be because she’s married to me and I do enough of that for the BOTH of us.
Now I’m curious to know who my readers are. I would say it is close to 50 – 50 men and women.

I’ve noticed that there are a couple of general types of PF blogs: those more related to savings and “frugality” – which seem to attract more women – and those more related to investment and entrepreneurship, which seem to attract more men. Ramit’s site is definitely the latter.

JLP – you should do a survey to see. I think it might be 50/50 too because your subject matter is diverse.
Foobarist – I can agree with that one. Men make the money and women control it.

Or maybe men are more likely to take the survey.
