Maybe There’s Hope for Venezuela

By JLP | August 24, 2006

I try not to get political on this blog because I think personal finance is important to everyone, no matter what their politics. I’m going to make an exception today because I have never cared for Hugo Chavez and his anti-American ways. Well, maybe his days of ruling Venezuela are coming to an end. That would be welcome news in my opinion.

That would be nice. Politics aside, Venezuela is sitting on the method to bring that countrys’ citizens into the circle of wealthiest nations on the planet given the right kind of leadership. Proper leaders don’t threaten or cajole neighbours to gain limited political points at the expense of their peoples’ well-being like Mr. Chavez tend to do. Politics or no, pissing off your biggest customer is not wise.

    Viva la contra-revolucion!

What goes around, comes around … the wheels turn in politics.

Hugo Chavez has done more for the 80% of Venezuelans that live in poverty than any other politician from that country’s two-party system have ever done. He’s not perfect by any stretch, but to have a leader that actually talks directly about the root causes of poverty is quite refreshing. And he also tries to do things about it to.

    Viva la revolucion.

    :)

Here’s my rather cynical ten ways to be a dictator. Chavez inspired several of them…

Chavez seems to want to take up the mantle from Castro, since Fidel is in his last days. We’ll see how succesful he is at it.
