Sharebuilder Gets on my Nerves

By JLP | September 6, 2006

Up until about a month ago, I had always had a link to Sharebuilder. The link was usually a banner ad and whenever someone set up an account through that link, I earned $20. I never earned much from it, but every little bit helps. About a month or so ago, I noticed that my Sharebuilder banner was dead. I signed in to my affiliate account to try to create a new banner but noticed that they had taken down the ad builder. So, I emailed them TWICE but got NO RESPONSE whatsoever. That kind of stuff gets on my nerves.

If they want to end the affiliate program, so be it. I don’ t really care. However, they should AT LEAST have the decency to let the affected bloggers know. It doesn’t show much respect for those who helped them spread the word about their business.

I think this is why so many blog owners stick with AdSense. I’ve heard horror stories of crazy affiliate demands. In some cases, whole page rewrites are required for posts originally approved by the affiliate.

    Todd,

Yeah, I agree but I don’t like having all my eggs in one basket. However, I haven’t had much success with banner ads. People (myself included) tend to ignore them.

I have my own beef with Sharebuilder right now. I signed up with one of the $50 bonuses and bought a share of SPG. I have been through two dividend cycles, and I have dividend reinvestment turned on. Anyhow, I checked the corporate site for SPF and looked at there dividend payouts. Even though I owned more than a full share, I was only getting dividends for my full share. Now, this may be in the Sharebuilder TOS or something, but I think it is cheap. I am never going to get my meager investment of $40 to be $2000 if they keep nickel-and-dime’n me!

Who was administering the program? Mine is thru CJ/Befree and I haven’t had any problems…

When I sign in, I also don’t have an ad builder. Just reports and some Help-like documentation. Can’t build links or get new banners.

    Gentlemen:

I manage ShareBuilder’s affiliate program. I do apologize for the inconvinience. We switched our website to the new 2.0 version, unfortunately we are experiencing some major bugs and are working hard to get these bugs fixed. Please note we value you as affiiliates and do profusely apologize for the problem. Please feel free to contact me at augustineo@sharebuilder.com. Hopefully we can get these issues resolved very soon.

    Thanks
