Well, I Did it!

By JLP | September 8, 2006

I finally broke down and signed up for cable TV. It took me 13 years to finally give in. What prompted me to get cable in the first place was the news that Monday Night Football was moving to ESPN. I’m a football fan and MNF is a tradition with me. My wife just rolled her eyes when I told her I wanted to get cable TV. Anyway, it took me a while and I put it off as long as I could. This week I received a card in the mail from Time Warner Cable with a package deal of digital cable TV/RoadRunner Internet/phone service for $119 per month. Since I am currently paying $97 per month for AT&T and RoadRunner by themselves, I thought this was a decent deal.

Of course I found out an extra charge that kind of ticked me off. They advertise Digital cable but when I called to sign up I was told that I have to rent the box too, which is an additional $7.95 per month. I asked the lady why they don’t say that on the advertisement. She didn’t have an answer (I think she gets asked that a lot). I HATE it when companies pull that kind of stuff (kind of like when magazines charge a “delivery charge” on a subscription!) I’m sure I’ll have taxes each month, which will run another $10 or more. Overall I think this is a decent deal.
