JLP Announces the Bogleheads’ October Project!

By JLP | September 20, 2006

Here’s some exciting news! During the month of October, I, along with 21 other personal finance bloggers, will be hosting a month-long, chapter-by-chapter review of The Bogleheads’ Guide to Investing. Each weekday during October, a different blogger will review a chapter out of The Bogleheads’ Guide to Investing. This is exciting to me because 1) to my knowledge, nothing like this has been done before; and 2) it’s one more project to bring a greater sense of community to the personal finance blogosphere. Also, as of this writing, I’m working on some other fun things to go along with this project. I’ll let you know if anything develops there.

How Did This Project Come About?

As most of you know, I like to do things that bring bloggers together. How and why I worked myself into this niche, I do not know. However, while the Question of the Day Marathon was taking place in August, I got to thinking about other projects that could be done with other bloggers. I happened to look up to see my copy of The Bogleheads’ Guide to Investing sitting on my desk. I picked it up and started thumbing through it and then the idea of a community-wide book review came to mind. I emailed the book’s publisher and asked them if they would be interested in sponsoring such an event and they kindly obliged. So, I sent out an email to my blogger friends, told them about the idea, and asked for volunteers, which are listed in the table below.

Why the Bogleheads’ Guide to Investing?

I chose the The Bogleheads’ Guide to Investing because I agree with what the authors have to say and I really enjoyed the book when I read it earlier this year. I also interviewed the authors and I think they have the readers’ best interest at heart. What more can I say?

So, that’s what we all have to look forward to in October. I’m excited. How about you?

[...] I was also reading “The Bogleheads’ Guide to Investing”. It covers basic but practical points on many aspects of investing and serves as a good starter kit for beginner. I find the rebalancing guideline in the book useful and would adopt it for my portfolio. Though I have a few chapters to go, it was an enjoyable read so far and I recommend it to all new investors. For those who want to preview the book, the good news is twenty three personal finance bloggers will each reviews one chapter of the book, over the month of October. I can’t wait to read them [...]
