Social Networking and Bookmarking
By JLP | October 14, 2006
I have been trying to use my del.icio.us account more effectively. This new effort was aided the new social networking buttons plugin that added buttons to the bottom of every post. Anyway, I have two del.icio.us accounts: JLPsLinks and JLtheP. I am in the process of moving all my bookmarks to JLtheP because it is a shorter name and it looks better in my “Social Networking” box located in my right sidebar (which is a new feature I added this morning).
I’m only using del.icio.us because it is so freakin’ popular and is the king of social bookmarking sites. I just wish that they allowed tags with spaces (for example: I would prefer “personal finance” instead of “personal_finance”). I actually prefer Ma.gnolia but their site isn’t nearly as big as del.icio.us and seems very slow. One thing that has bugged me about del.icio.us is that over the last several days I have noticed that I can’t see the history for my bookmarks. In other words, when I see that a particular URL has been bookmarked by 14 people, I can click and see who has bookmarked that site. However, lately I have been getting a “There is no del.icio.us history for this url” message. Does anyone know what’s up with that?
Finally, feel free to add me to your del.icio.us network.

Check out onlywire.com. Basically it allows you to bookmark to multiple sites via 1 interface. I use it for both del.icio.us and ma.gnolia.com.

I wish I understood what del.icio.us really did. I think its one of the most un-user-friendly sites. It’s way over my head. Best of luck to you though!

Just tag stuff ‘personal finance’ and then people can find it by stinging words together, as in personal+finance.

Heh.
I have countless del.icio.us accounts. Well, maybe not countless, but A LOT. I have one for each weblog (getrichslowly, foldedspace, fourcolor, animalminds, happyfeet, bibliophilic, etc.). I also have a personal del.icio.us account for stuff I want to track myself (such as possible future post ideas).
I resisted using it for a *long* time. It was only once I started GRS that I found it useful. Now it’s essential to managing my workflow!
