Beware of Social Security E-Mail Scam
By JLP | November 7, 2006
I just saw this warning on the CNNMoney website and thought I would pass it along. Here’s the jest of it:
If you get an e-mail announcing the cost-of-living increases scheduled for 2007 Social Security benefits and purporting to be from the Social Security Administration, don’t answer it and don’t click on any links in the e-mail.
It’s a scam.
BOTTOM LINE: Ignore ANY AND ALL emails that ask you to “update” your information. And NEVER click on links inside emails because they can easily be disguised. Just because it looks like a link to a legitimate website, the hyperlink itself can take you elsewhere.
You always have to be on your toes. These scam artists are getting trickier and trickier. May they all rot in the fiery pit below!
