Not to advocate usury or even be argumentative, but what's the alternative? I've never used, been involved in, or even been within a telephone pole of one of these establishments nor do I wish ever to do so. BUT, they do fulfill a need or they wouldn't exist. Sort of like a bail bondsman. NOBODY wants their service, yet many are very glad they're around when you need them.

The scary thing about those places (at least locally) is they are allowed to charge interest rates in the 25-35% range per anum. They prey on the people who are stuggling to meet their payments only to be gouged. They even ran a story in the paper about people being forced to borrow more money just to pay back the previous loan.

These places are are spreading as fast as Starbucks... I still don't know how they can legally charge such high interest rates. I always thought there were legal limits. I guess they found a way to be "legal loan sharks".

Heh, only five? You should try living in a military concentrated area. I think there are 30 locations in Hampton Roads, and they claim not to exploit the military. How could they do anything but?
