Nothing’s Ever As Easy at I Think it Should Be
By JLP | February 1, 2007
Okay, I uninstalled Office 2007 Beta. I then clicked on my Outlook 2003 Icon and received this lovely message. Okay, no big deal. I’ll just do a program fix and everything will be okay. Well, I ran the Office repair function, rebooted my computer, click on the Outlook icon and I get this lovely message! Again? (My blood pressure’s rising!) So, I REINSTALLED Office 2003, which took 20 minutes. I then REFREAKINBOOTED the computer again, clicked on the Outlook icon and I get this lovely message!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So,….
I threw the computer out the window…
Just teasin’. I didn’t really (although it would have been fun for about 3 seconds).
Finally, I uninstalled Office 2003 and rebooted my computer. Now I’ll try re-installing again and see if it will finally fix the problem. This is going on three hours now…
UPDATE: Well, completely uninstalling and reinstalling Office 2003 did the trick. Outlook 2003 seems so cold-looking compared to Outlook 2007. I’ll get used to it.

IMHO, never run a beta application on a computer that’s being used frequently … or … create a system restore point prior to the install of the beta software.
I had similar problems with IE7 beta, it was so bad that I had to reformat my OS, and I’m an IT guy!

Oddly, for someone in software development, I’m a hard-core Luddite when it comes to new MSFT software. Win2K and O2K all the way, baby! But I use Firefox for browsing and Thunderbird for email, so I don’t have to worry about email updates that come from office.
Other than a slight snazziness in the user interface, MSFT’s office software has changed little at the level I’d use it in ten years.

I had the same problem yesterday! I’m glad it is something with MS Office rather than my computer. Thanks for the fix! Looks like your financial blog just turned into desktop support for me.

Aren’t orphan DLLs the best? I’m glad my MacBook doesn’t have that problem!
