H&R Block Launches a Virtual Office in SecondLife
By JLP | March 19, 2007
H&R Block is a sponsor of AllFinancialMatters.com.
H&R Block has set up shop on SecondLife, a virtual community. According to their press release:
The company today launched “H&R Block” Island, a new destination for the multitudes of people who spend more than 7 million hours per month as they live, work, and play in Second Life. With digital tax professionals sharing free advice, providing access to the latest tax preparation products, and hosting tax-related events, tax time may never be the same.
I hadn’t even heard of SecondLife until I read the press release. I’m guessing this means we have to pay taxes even in the virtual world. DANG!

Well you probably don’t have to pay a tax to Linden Lab, just the price of the server/real estate of your land in Second Life. But I’m sure Flipper Peregrine and Anshe Chung (whatever her name is) are paying real taxes on the real income they generate for their Second Life businesses.
FWIW, I can’t get into Second Life. I like PF Blogging and one MMORPG game, but Second Life’s appeal totally escapes me. You’d think with my life online that SL would be fun, but no. I really don’t get it.

You don’t have to pay taxes, if you don’t mind going to jail!
In Canada you get dragged into court and have your wages garnished, but luckily the CCRA do not have the sweeping powers of the IRS (and hopefully they never will).
So will I soon see an H&R Block inside Sims 5 (time to pay your taxes)!
