Check Your Credit Score For Free

By JLP | April 13, 2007

Reader and commenter, eROCK, sent me a link to a Bankrate FICO Score Estimator. I have wanted to know what my score is but didn’t want to spend the money on it especially since we’re not buying anything with credit. This Bankrate Credit Score Estimator is perfect for getting an idea of your credit score without forcing you fork over $15 per report.

One thing I found weird was earlier this week when I used it, it told me that my FICO score was 770 - 820. Today, I got a 750 - 805. I guess I must have entered something differently this time around. If you try out the estimator, it’s important to be HONEST!

Thanks for the tip, eROCK!

Yeah, mine showed up as 730-780, which is about right with our debt load. It’s good to never have missed a payment on anything!

[...] Check your credit score for free By DancingSamurai in Links JLP at All Financial Matters has posted a neat link to Bankrate’s FICO score estimator. The FICO score, according to wikipedia is “a number typically between 300 and 850, based on a statistical analysis of a person’s credit files, to represent the creditworthiness of that person, which is the likelihood that the person will pay his or her bills.” In other words, it’s very important if you’re applying for loans and such. The estimator was quite accurate for me, which is nice since the credit bureaus will give you your actual score but charge you extra money for it. [...]

Pretty cool! It estimated 730-780 for me, while my actual score is currently hovering around 770. Pretty accurate, but not perfect. I guess my results are skewed a bit since I’m on the younger end of the spectrum (so I haven’t had any loans longer than 7 or 8 years).

“Your FICO® scores are estimated to be between: 680-730.” I had a delinquency once a while ago, before I got my finances in shape. In a few years, I guess this will be up a bit.
