Take the Money Ethics Quiz

By JLP | May 15, 2007

Take the Money Ethics Quiz. It will take you about 3 minutes to complete. I scored a 32 out or 40 which according to Money means:

25-34: Expect some bumps in the road with friends, relatives and co-workers who don’t see eye to eye with you when it comes to money and ethics.

Regarding the quiz:

Your score is NOT a measure of how ethical you are. It’s an indication of how in step you are with the ethics of others. For each question that your response was the same as the response of most survey respondents, you received two points. For each question that your response was the same as the response of a substantial minority of survey respondents, you received one point. So, for example, if you occasionally take home some post-it pads from the office, you get two points – even though, as our ethicists point out, the fact that everyone does it doesn’t make it right.

I was out of step with the majority of people on 4 questions (#3, #4, #8, and #20).

How did you do?

I scored 37 out of 40. I was out of step on #20.

    39. I was out-of-step on #13 (I have an entire drawer full of pens/pencils from the office; I don’t do it on purpose, but I tend to put things in my pocket/backpack for meetings, then forget about them until I come home). I thought #8 was ambiguous - I’ve never lent money to a friend/relative, but I’ve given plenty of times; I still answered $500, even though I’ve never, ever loaned money.

Same score range as you, and did not mesh on #1, #3, and #20. And another one but I forget the number— NOT the one about sleeping with the boss ;-)

The “pens and whatnot” question was tricky. I “lied” since I do take such things home, but since I work from home about 50% of the time, one of my “work stations” _is_ at home and my company wants us to have office supplies available.

    I got a 36…

    42 out of 40?
Wow, didn’t realize that you could be out side the box so much. I was flat out being honest on my answers; I wouldn’t steal myself per se but that didn’t mean I wouldn’t take a deal or a job that wasn’t environmentally clean; like the article mentioned I could profess to say that I was green but if a job comes along and pays a good amount I would take it.

The 25000.00 assessment question was a real good one; I won’t rat out my fellow employees about stealing post it notes so why would I rat myself out on a deal. The homebuyer would probably want a discount if not equivalent to the assessment to at least approaching it in some way.

I can see why the majority of people would hide this fact.

Ethics are in the eyes of the beholder; cop out?

    27. Ethics be damned.

Very interesting. I got a 28. I got hit hard right out of the gate with #1 and #2. #13 - yes, i take pens from work, occasionnally and #12 wouldn’t tell on someone.

Other than that, I’m a decent human being :)

Did they delete some questions? I got 21 out of 30 (a bit stricter than the masses on some things). The salary thing is a bit weird for me since I work on contract and we all know what each other makes.

    joe,

Yes, I guess they did. When I took it there were 20 questions.

I got a 20 out of 30, so I guess that means I disagreed with others on a third of the questions. Though some are a bit ambiguous, with somewhat versus strongly. What if I take pens home to do work with them? I think using office supplies solely at home versus using them both at work and at home are entirely different things, but maybe it’s just me.

    28 out of 30 w/apparent scaled-down questioning.

I got 15 out of 30 so I guess I’m on the safest part not wrong not also right… Beside, I would steal in any form just to be have some money… I would not even buy a Mercedes grille and had a discount on it knowing that I would be taking advantage on a group of people just to make my car look good on others or just for my own pleasure…

I got a 20/30. It looks like they changed the scoring system… My rating description is the same as yours.
