My Back!
By JLP | May 29, 2007
You don’t realize how much you use your back until you hurt it. Yesterday I was playing around with my daughter and somehow, some way, I pulled something in my lower back. It didn’t hurt that much at first but this morning in the shower, I moved the wrong way and REALLY hurt it. Now I can hardly move.
Other than that, we had a great week/weekend. Between all the stuff going on during the last week of school and Memorial Day weekend, I didn’t have much time for blogging. It was nice to take a break from the blog world although now my stats are in the toilet.
Anyway, I’m back now and I have a lot of stuff to write about. I’ll post my weekly roundup and a book review (along with a book giveaway) sometime today.
Stay tuned…

I’ve had similar back problems. They persisted for years because I never let it heal properly. I recommend taking a lot of Aleve (about 800mg) and taking a lot of rest until it is better. That way it will heal properly and it won’t get reinjured later. Also, I’m not a doctor, so you may want to consult one.

My suggestion to you would to rest, ice and possibly wearing something to protect your back. Most people prefer heat but soon after an injury ice actually is recommended the first 72 hours. Ice cools the tissue down and gives your body time to heal. Heat actually can hamper you in the beginning. If your pain doesn’t go away after a week, look into going to the doctor’s to get a prescription for Physical Therapy, where treatment would also include positions to lessen and discomfort as well as prevention from further injury. I have a Doctorate’s degree in Physical Therapy.

I suggest you take a lot of time off from work and spend it blogging. It won’t help your back, but it should increase my reading pleasure.

Same goes with ureters if you’ve ever had kidney stone. We use them 24/7 non-stop, we really don’t even know they’re there, but can cripple you with pain in no time!

First, get better. Second, buy a book on core conditioning and a Swiss ball. Third, stretch your hamstrings every day. Fourth, check out your workstation if you spend a ton of time blogging. Computer height, chair, keyboard, etc. I feel your pain and wish you a speedy recovery.

Ice definitely helps. I recently fell rollerblading — right on my tailbone and lower back. Ice did wonders.
