A Journal Entry From June 1, 1984
By JLP | August 3, 2007
Here’s a little Friday humor for you as well as a glimpse into my past. Here’s a journal entry (bad spelling and all) from June 1, 1984 I found in an old notebook of mine:
June 1, 1984 (Friday)
Well, we have been out of school for exactly 1 week now. I haven’t been doing much except mow lawns. I have $83.00 in the bank so far. I’m not doing that bad. I’m supposed to get a check on Monday or sometime for $40.00. but unfortunaly I have to pay my mom $20.00 of it. And I am going to give an offering of $10.00. And then after you take off your tithes youll have $2.00 left.
Even though I was very good at mowing lawns (except for the times when I worked with my cousin), I wasn’t good at managing my money back then. And, it’s not like my dad didn’t try to teach me. I was just stubborn had had to do things my way with my money. LOL!
Going back and reading the stuff I wrote when I was kid reminded me of a few things:
1. I didn’t do my homework.
2. I was funny.
3. I was scared to death of girls even though I liked them.
If you have an old journal from when you were a kid, I urge you dig it out and read it. It will bring back some good (and bad) memories.

Thankfully I threw away all of my old journals. It just occured to me I wrote a BASIC program in the 1980s to keep a journal online. Huh. Guess I was always a blogger.

That’s hysterical. What’s telling is that you were writing about money even then! I’m sure my own journals from back then were full of stuff about my latest argument with my parents, my latest crush, and what my friends and I were planning to do.
