OT: The 2008 Honda Accord (yawn…)

By JLP | August 21, 2007

Here’s a look at the all-new 2008 Honda Accord Sedan:

I’ll reserve my final judgment when I see the actual car. However, for right now, I’m not too impressed. The front end looks like a Scion tC. It must be hard for designers to come up with something new.

Hmm, I like the coupe, but the sedan is uuuuugly. Of course, I initially thought the same thing about the current-gen Accords too (coupe and sedan alike), and I still kind of do. The best Accord ever in terms of looks was the ‘98-’02. I *still* want to buy one, and if I ever find a good deal on a used one (esp. a coupe) I might snag it.

I’m definitely not impressed, and I’m a long time Honda lover! Even the new Civics are a bit too… I dunno … square or angular for me.

    Amanda,

We have a 2007 Civic and have been pretty happy with it. The looks have grown on me and now I think it is a nice-looking car. I don’t think the new Accord will grow on me.

looks like a freaking Hyundai. The side has an euro feel to it for some reason and what little of the back I can see, must be equally horrible.

I don’t get it. the previous generation accord (in Japan and Europe) is pretty slick. styling is basically the Acura TSX here in the states.

you’re definitely right, must be hard to be a car designer. considering the production cycle, this must have been in the works years ago. still feels like they took a step back though.

btw, here’s a picture of the 8th generation coupe concept. definitely more square, but looks much better than what we have up there.

I miss my 2006 Honda Civic SI…it was the SEXIEST car ever. I’ve always been a Honda driver but GASP! now I own a 2004 Volvo (I admit I LOVE it) and an 03 Monte Carlo (hey it was super cheap!) I miss my hondas though :(

I also liked the older Accord models – the newer one looks a little boxy for my standards.

    Amber,

Okay, I have to ask: why did you get rid of a 2006 model car? It seems too new to dump.

I drive a ‘93 accord and am hoping against hope that the ‘11 diesel models look…well not like they do right now. I love my ‘93….

I still love our boring, but slightly classy looking, 2000 Camry. They changed the body style a couple years ago to something more “aggressive”.

Fortunately, it’s a Camry so as long as we keep it clean, it’ll run well and look good for at least another decade.

As for the Accord, the front end looks a lot like the Mitsubishi Tredia I owned just out of college.

Front end looks like a scion, the back like a 3 series. Don’t know what to think. The Camry (which I hated at first) has grown on me.

The ‘08 doesn’t look that bad. Although, I’m pretty partial to Honda and Toyota. After driving my new ‘07 4Runner, it’s going to be hard to go back to driving “regular” car.

Prior to the 4R, I had an ‘03 Civic that served me loyally until a 1′ thick tree fell on us—while we were driving. The tree did a number on the roof, but the engine still ran fine. I’ve temporarily got some pictures posted at my domain, until the site goes live.

The sedan looks very strange. The front grill looks like a pilot or ridgeline…just sort of out there and doesn’t flow well with the rest of the car. The accord coupe is actually pretty hot! Has some G35 angles to it.

Hondas aren’t exactly known for their cutting edge design….IMO Nissan gives you more for your money in design, and perhaps one of the best V6 engines ever, the VQ6 – Honda is a practical, reliable car, but just oh so boring and safe…..If I were to equate Honda to a personality, it would be Ben Stein – a brilliant bore…

Yeah, I still prefer the ‘07 over the ‘08 model Accord. And I’m not too impressed that the ‘08 is now big enough to be considered a full-sized sedan.

hi, i drive a 04 accord coupe exl and i love the car. i was excited about the 08 new models. not any more. after looking at both the accord and nissan coupe ,there is no question that the nissan is a much better looking car. i am disappointed that honda did not do a better job looks wise. i will drive the nissan to see if i like the ride. if not i will go out looking for a 07 accord coupe. jim
