I can tell you how glad I am to be done with the kitchen remodel here! It is the best bang for your remodeling buck, but good grief it is taxing!

Sounds like a well thought-out design for your new kitchen.

Is the pocket door going to stay?

If so, I recommend marking the outline of it very conspicuously with painter's tape on the morning that the cabinet installer(s) is set to arrive.

A typical cabinet screw sinks 1.5-2" into a stud, so they'll need to use shorter screws in that section.

You may also want to verbally remind them. Better to nag a little than to be stuck with either having to demand a new door or live with a patch job.

As long as you stay on top of the contractors/workers, you should be through before Thanksgiving. My wife and I are in the remodel of our kitchen as well. We started scouting out designers at the end of July. ( MP - I suggest using a designer. A good one can save you money and headaches. Their experience can save you money and headaches.)

Demo of the kitchen started two weeks ago, the electricians, plumbers and HVAC guys are done with their parts (more electrics later, lighting and such...) and the cabinets go in next week. We will be busy painting this weekend. Things will come to a screeching halt when the guys come in to template for the granite countertops. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Best of luck with your project. Remember, if you plan on living in your house for a while after the remodel, don't skimp on the small stuff (or big stuff for that matter.) You'll regret it in the end. I learned that from the master bath remodel.

I enjoy reading your blog. Keep up the good work.

Thanksgiving!

I asked one of the guys today how long these projects typically take and he said, "Shoot, we done one in 90 days and we done one in 60 days. Ya just never know." So, I'm hoping it's done by Thanksgiving!

Very exciting, JLP! I hope it turns out as well as you hope. Remodeling the kitchen can totally change the character of a house.

Wow, how did you find your contractor? I am in the process of finding a contractor for my kitchen remodel but I haven't a clue how to start. I have been to Design (boutique and Home Depot) studios but I would perfer a general contractor who can manage everything. Oh my what a process this is, but I have found everything I want in the kitchen, now I just need someone to do the work.

Nice! Do you have a CAD drawing or something that we can see to better envision the final product?
