Question of the Day – Holiday Spending

By JLP | November 14, 2007

Here’s a question of the day for you:

Will energy prices (or just inflation in general) put a damper on your holiday spending (both Thanksgiving and Christmas)?

We are staying local this year but will be spending a lot more money on food since we will be hosting Thanksgiving at our house. The kitchen/family room remodel has also sucked up a lot of our extra cash so we will definitely be spending less this year.

I’m with Meg in that holiday spending doesn’t have to crush your budget. In many ways I think holiday spending has gotten out of control.

Anyway, I’d like to know your thoughts on today’s question of the day.

We don’t plan to travel for Thanksgiving or Christmas, and we don’t spend that much on gasoline anyway, so it won’t affect us much. We will spend about as much as we usually do on gifts.

Not really, but if we end up traveling for Christmas, that is going to be where a lot of our money goes. Now that we’re on the opposite side of the country from family, going to see them is going to prove to be quite costly indeed. As far as gifts/food are concerned, we’ve always been pretty reasonable, and I see no reason for that to change.
