LOL! Check this out:

It’s called the Tata Nano. It’s cheap (something like $2,500) but it sure is U-G-L-Y!

Ugly or not, if it has some quality it will be successful.

Here’s a link to an interview with the owner of the company that made the car. Worth a read and explains why the car is designed so and for whom: http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/News/News_By_Industry/Interview_with_Ratan_Tata_Making_of_Nano/articleshow/2690794.cms

Those guys voting this for UGLIEST car, they have ever visited India? where many people are making $1 per day as their income and where the people’s are not having enough money to dream of buying Honda, Mercedeez, Toyota or any high end car.
This car is called peoples car, this is for the family who can not afford to have these costly cars.

And some more informatio… this is basic car with all safety features and EURO4 norm for pollutions..

want! some more informatio contact me : sanjeev2111@hotmail.com or come to India to see the India’s success..

Yes, I own an Aztek. But, I think everyone is missing the point aboutugly cars. The Aztek is great car that rides well, gets reasonable gas milage, and is comfortable.

The ugly is only visible from the outside. I drive it so, I don’t have to look at it.

Picked it up cheap too. Apparently, some people care about what it looks like from the outside too!

As for “people’s car”, that’s literally what Volkswagen means: “volk” is “people”, and “wagen” is vehicle. And, come to think of it, this looks a bit like an old Bug…

If it had B-U-I-C-K on it JLP would think it was the best looking car out there!!!!!

Seriously, has anyone seen what the cost would be if it had all the mandated features (safety & environmental) to qualify for sale in the US?

Haha. I don’t think so. The Nano is ugly enough that I don’t think slapping a Buick badge on it would change my mind. Besides, I thought the last Buick Riviera was a dog.

It looks like a shortened version of the Renault Twingo. I’m sure Apple will sue them over the Nano name.

I imagine it looks just fine to those people in India that it is being marketed to.

    F2000,

Why do I have to be an “expert” in order to have an opinion on the looks of a car?

I am a regular reader of your column and was really dissapointed to read your statement. You have no right to decide what is ugly. BEAUTY IS IN THE EYES OF THE BEHOLDER.
May be its ugly…but I am sure it will fulfill dreams of owning a car for many….You should appreciate the fact that somebody could manufacture a car of high grade for cheap. Wait till TATA makes its presence in USA(TATA will be buying Jaguar and LandRover soon…)

    abhi,

    Sorry to disappoint you.

I understand the significance of this car. I just think it’s ugly.

It’s the cheapest car in the world - made by an Indian for Indians. It’s better value than useless Ford and Chevy brands being marketed in India. The latter are anyway discarded by Americans who are preferring Toyotas and Hondas. So it’s time for Nano. Who really cares what an american thinks about Indian car? Drive a nano and have fun! :-)
