Check Out H&R Block Digits
By JLP | March 13, 2008
In the interest of full disclosure, H&R Block is an advertiser on AllFinancialMatters.
I received an email awhile back from a PR person for H&R Block alterting me to a new website that Block has created called Digits. What is Digits? According to the website, Digits is…
your community, built with the latest technologies to help you share your thinking through text, images and video conversations. Digits highlights the connections between money, art, politics, the planet and people everywhere. You’ll get access to the tax and personal financial resources you’d expect from H&R Block … but there’s much more here than that. Serious debate? Sure. A little light-hearted banter? Absolutely. Digits is about money. It’s about life. It’s about you. Come be entertained and join in the fun.
It’s an interesting idea that seems to be geared toward the younger crowd. I will say that that Truman Greene fella gets on my nerves. Nobody should be that excited about a company!
Anyway, check it out and tell me what you think.

Well, looks like somebody else still owns the digits.com domain. Wonder how long it’ll take before H&R Block buys it out from them.
Maybe it’s because it’s midnight here and I’m an old geezer who needs to go to bed, but I can’t figure out that site (digits.hrblock.com). Does it have a purpose? A theme? A point? Your description doesn’t make any sense either — which, knowing that it’s copied verbatim from Block itself, leads me to think it’s the confused result when when tax accountants decide to get hip and “do” Web 2.0. An unnatural pairing, that’s for sure.

Fred,
Oops. I used the wrong URL. Sorry about that.
I used H&R Block’s discription because I really didn’t know how to describe it any differently.

That’s exactly the problem right there. If a company can’t describe their own site clearly, how can they expect people to figure it out for themselves? And if people can’t see how a site benefits them, they won’t come back.

Since their “Instant Refund” nonsense, I’ve had a rule against doing business with H&R Block. I did check out the site, though, and it’s a bit of a mess. Looks like their marketing department may have discovered this “Interweb” thing recently.

I just came across this page from your mention of Truman Greene. I watched that video, and man, it’s so bad it’s funny! But I’m with you on his misdirected enthusiasm.
