Pizza Hut Now Charging Extra for Extra Cheese

By JLP | June 2, 2008

I just ordered pizza for my family. I always use a coupon that gives me two large pizzas with up to 3 toppings for $19.99. In the past, as one of the three toppings, I have chosen extra cheese. Tonight I noticed a note was added to the extra cheese section that said that they would add $1.00 for extra cheese if you’re using a coupon.

What?

On top of that, they mysteriously added $1 to my order for no apparant reason (unless altering the Supreme pizza costs more).

So, my order was about $2 more than usual, which represents a nearly 10% price increase. It seems like EVERYTHING is costing more these days. Sure, $2.00 doesn’t sound like a lot but when you consider that nearly everything is going up in price, it represents a significant price increase.

Oh, and while we’re talking about Pizza Hut, those Tuscani Pastas they have been advertising on TV are nothing like they make them out to be! There’s no way that the people in the TV commercial could be fooled into thinking they were eating anything fancier than fast food. My family wasn’t impressed.

“Fast food” is a lie to begin with: It isn’t food, it is outright poison. Pizza Hut (and all processed food) should have warning labels like that of cigarettes – taxes too.

    It is a shame.

Jack in the Box here charges 10 cents for additional sauce of any kind.

Being a vegan I am used to these extra charges that most people are spared. I want to enjoy a coffee at Starbucks, I need to pay .50 to .60 cents extra for soy milk in addition to the already overpriced coffee. Good thing I’ve never developed the Starbucks habit that most people around here have. If I try and get a pizza, most places won’t allow me to substitute a vegetable for the cheese. I still get charged for an additional topping. It’s all complete nonsense.

We rarely get pizza delivered but I’ve been seeing that commercial so often that I couldn’t help wondering about those pastas. Glad to know my instinct was correct!

my veggie restaurant hasn’t yet raised the price for three years, neither have I raised the tip from $7.00 on top of $25.xx order …

Forget those chain restaurants. Find a good ma-and-pa shop that makes a quality pizza and stick with them. Not only will you help the “small guy”, but also you’ll get far better service.

Those pastas don’t even look in on the commercials. They look gummy and soggy. Definitely not appetizing at all. Yes, that commercial has to be faked.

I think that we will need to accept that food prices are going to go up. We need to be careful as some places will try to hide the price increases by adding extra charges etc. I have pretty much given up eating out now as the food I can afford is not that nice, I would rather cook myself.

Maybe you just shouldn’t accept the price increase? If you can accept it then maybe you were getting too good a deal before.

There’s an article today on MSN, I think, saying the UN sayd there will need to be 50% more food output by a certain date in the near future (sorry can’t remember it). So the best bet is to buy stock in seed companies – Monsanto, Agrium, etc. Remember they not only produce food, they produce fuel.

The only time I eat at Pizza Hut is when I’m longing for American food after too much Chinese when we visit the in-laws in Shanghai…

Other than that, I stick to mom&pops – the pizza is more expensive, but actually tastes good.

I love pizza hut pizza with extra cheese. I went there last night and got the buffet, and there were 2! extra cheese pizzas out. You would think if it cost them that much more, they would stick with cheaper toppings.

They also had the pasta out, and I was very impressed. I thought it was very good, even after sitting out for awhile.

I usually prefer local shops. Where I am at there are plenty of them and they each have their own unique flavor. When it comes to the big pizza companies I like Papa Johns and Domino’s.

One of the major selling points of franchise based food businesses is that each one doesn’t have it’s own unique flavor :-)

I use to be able to get coupons on Pizza Hut’s website, but now they want all your information, and agree to get their annoying e-mails, before you can print out a “free” coupon. Now that is what I call cheesey.

I think that pasta looks disgusting, and I would not eat it.

By the way…I worked at the “original” pizza hut-a mom and pop that as far as I know had the name first…believe there was some kind of settlement, and the man gave them the name.

Our pizza was far superior to Pizza Hut pizza…made with real ingredients, and the customer was always right!

I just had Ray’s pizza and it was heavenly
The taste was fantastic and the price wasnt that bad. Also they make nice salads. And the nutrition was better than Pizza Hut or Dominos
