I just wanted to let you all know that I’m giving away a copy of Larry Swedroe’s book, Rational Investing in Irrational Times, over at Chief Family Officer. To enter, all you have to do is leave a comment with your best investing tip.
Judging from his posts, JLP likes Larry Swedroe quite a bit. He may not always agree with him, but he gave Wise Investing Made Simple a positive review and has posted some material written by Larry.

My 5 best tips: diversify, diversify, diversify, save as much as possible, only invest money in equities if you’re OK leaving it there for years through the inevitable ups and downs,

My 5 best tips: Save as much as you can, maximize your tax free accounts first, invest in no load index funds or managed mutual funds that beat their respective indexes over at least 15 years, diversify (but keep it simple) e.g. (25% U.S. Large Cap, 25% U.S. small Cap, 25% Foreign, 20% Bond 5%REIT), talk to a well recommended fee only financial planner early and often.

My best tip is that diversification doesn’t give you the benefit you think it will unless you remember to rebalance periodically. This is best explained in the dry and academic “Intelligent Asset Allocator”.

Primarily invest in low-cost index funds. If Warren Buffet thinks this strategy can beat the hedge funds over 10 years, I certainly would agree.

Diversification, and playing the market for the best ETF you can find. Most times you can beat the market.

Always invest a set amount of money from each paycheck no matter what. Do it automatically so you don’t even see the money. Then you will never miss it and your budget will accommodate and you don’t have to think about it.
