I Don’t EVER Want to go Through That Again!
By JLP | August 5, 2008
Well, Edouard has come and gone! Yippy! I can’t speak for the entire area, but my neighborhood did just fine. The storm did do something that I NEVER want to go through again! It knocked out our cable and internet for about 30 minutes!!!!!!! The thought of going through a stormy day with no cable or internet made me sick to my stomach.
I’m only joking. Surely I’m not that spoiled!
Anyway, I’m working on a post idea and will have something up sometime today.

Sadly, I can relate. Since my entire livelihood is based around my ability to get access to the Internet, not being able to get online worries me.
Glad to hear you made it through the storm unscathed.

Our building got struck by lightning last night. Lost not only the internet/cable connection, but a tv, tivo, 2 routers, a dvd player, the controls for the oven, and that’s just what we’re sure of now.

Mory,
I’m sorry to hear that. That stinks.
It’s for that reason why I always try to unplug my TV and computers when I think there’s a good chance for lightning. I would hate to have to replace a $4,000 TV or a laptop with all my files that would be hard to replace.

$4,000 TV? yikes
I bought a 50″ Samsung DLP last Dec for $800 + tax
Samsungs new 61″ LED 1080p DLP is only $1450 on Amazon.com right now…My wife won’t let me upgrade until she gets a dishwasher

Preston,
I bought the Samsung 5271 LCD last October for $3,700 (I believe it listed for $4,100 at the time). I’m sure I could get it for less than that now. That’s why I don’t like buying technology. It’s irritating to buy something and then see it a few months later for several hundred dollars less than you paid for it.

I hear you on TV prices. Looking at the prices now make me sick. We bought our DLP almost 3 years ago for about 2200, and like Preston said, you can easily find the same size for under a grand now. I hate buying electronics!
