OT: Some People Will Do ANYTHING to Try to Get Rich!
By JLP | August 8, 2008
DISCLAIMER: I am not a fan of Joel Osteen or his wife. I think their church is full of fluff.
That said, this still angers me:
Jury seated in lawsuit against Osteen’s wife
Opening statements set for today in Osteen trial
Flight attendant: Osteen’s wife threw tantrum
Osteen’s lawyer accuses witness of playing ‘race card’
Basically, here’s what happened:
Victoria Osteen boarded an airplane with her family back in December 2005. Osteen noticed liquid of some sort on the arm of her seat and requested (or demanded depending on who speaks of the event) it be cleaned up. Then, for some reason there was an altercation between Osteen and Sharon Brown, the flight attendant. It must have been a pretty bad altercation:
Sharon Brown is suing Lakewood co-pastor Victoria Osteen over an alleged altercation the two had on a plane before takeoff on Dec. 19, 2005. Brown is asking for medical and counseling expenses and 10 percent of Victoria Osteen’s net worth in punitive damages.
A very bad altercation…
Brown claims she lost her religious faith and suffers from hemorrhoids because of the anxiety and trauma of the incident.
Wow! You lose your faith and get hemorrhoids? That’s pretty bad!
Like I said in my disclaimer above: I’m not a fan of the Osteens. Victoria looks fake up there on the stage each week and I can’t stand Joel’s southern stretched-out drawl. But, this case is a complete waste of time and it’s an insult to our legal system.

JLP – I with you on this (and I’m a lawyer). Not enough shame in my profession and this is another example.

Obviously this flight attendant thinks she found a way to improve her financial situation.

I’ve never heard of anyone’s pain or suffering being a direct correlation of someones net worth. This is clearly about money and nothing else.
Regardless of what people think about the Osteens and their church, it’s too bad that prominant public figures have become such easy targets for frivolous lawsuits like this.

In turn, I’m going to sue Sharon Brown to cover my medical and counseling services, plus 10% of her net worth in punitive damages (especially if she’s successful in shaking down the Osteens). Why? Her lawsuit against the Osteens has caused me anxiety and trauma because it made me vomit (violently I might add) and I’ve subsequently lost my faith in the legal system. Only seems fair to me.

Why couldn’t she get a napkin and wipe up the liquid herself?

KC,
According to some of the articles I have read, that’s what she was about to do.

Seems to me there might just be something to that particular church if their chosen deity has the power to inflict hemorrhoids on the faithless heathens!
