Back From San Antonio!

By JLP | August 18, 2008

My wife and I made it back from our anniversary weekend in San Antonio. We had an awesome time. We stayed at the Westin on the San Antonio Riverwalk and spent Friday cruising the Riverwalk and Saturday at the Outlet Malls in San Marcos.

The Westin was nice but I hate the way hotels nickel and dime you for everything. I just wish a hotel would tell me how much it is for EVERYTHING instead of quoting me a room rate and then charging extra for everything else. We spent $75 just parking our car! I thought that was crazy.

Other than that, we had a great time.

    JLP,

I thought I would let you know your site is horrible about caching the HTML. It is the only blog I go to where I have to refresh the page after following my bookmark to see if you have any new posts.

    Jordan,

I have no idea what you’re talking about.

JLP - Welcome back - at least the hotels have stopped charging for local phone calls, now that we all have cell phones!

Regarding the caching issue, I don’t have that problem with your site. It may be something with his browser cache. Here is an article that explains the issue. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/234067

You left just at the right time. It’s raining right now, and the forcast say’s rain all week long. Parking downtown is crazy, although it’s nice staying there I often recommend people stay else where in the city since they often provide free parking. The holiday in downtown has free parking but is a few blocks away from the actual riverwalk. Everytime I go downtown I usually end up parking at the USO garage since it’s a small fee for the entire day.

JLP: The caching is a problem for me when it comes to posting comments. They never show up until way after you click submit. This problem was resolved in wp-cache several releases ago. You should try it.

Just to let you know, I check about an hour after I posted comment #5, above and it still hadn’t shown up. But it’s there now. Looks like it’s taking between 1-5 hours to actually display.

    ToughMoneyLove,

I’m using Firefox and my cache settings are fine (I’m a web-developer). This blog is the only site that has problems getting cached. With fivecentnickel having the same problem, I imagine the problem is on JLP’s side.

    Jordan,

I’m working on it. I don’t know what the hell I’m doing so I have to get someone do this for me.

One irony: the more expensive the establishment, the more it nickels & dimes. Cheap motels nowadays have free parking, free phones, and free Internet. High-end “luxury” places have pay everything and a zillion guys hanging around demanding tips.

JLP: Just de-activate your current caching plugin and then install and activate the latest version of wp-cache. That should solve the problem.

When we stayed at a resort recently I was not happy that they charged a $10 a day “resort fee” which paid for upkeep of the pools, work-out rooms and yada-yada. Just about all the resorts we have looked at recently are charging that. At first I was angry, but since we seldom get away, and we don’t take big trips, and we really enjoyed ourselves and spent less then $50 a day while there, I decided it was worth my sanity to enjoy the trip and the get-away and not worry about the extra charges. But I still don’t like it!

Welcome Back–what a boring weeking of no blog-reading!

Did you try the special Margaritas there–they’re greenish, but I can’t remember their unique name…

I LOVE The Riverwalk. Some of the best treasures for our home were bought during our pre-engagement trip Oct 1988 or so. Yes, mom, we had separate rooms ;)
