We Have Power But We’re Still Not Home
By JLP | September 23, 2008
Going home tomorrow! Whoooo Hooooo!
We came back from Kansas yesterday but are still staying with my wife’s sister’s family. I drove to our hometown today to check things out. Overall the damage was not too bad in our town, which is good for us. We still had a tree that suffered major damage and will probably have to be cut down. At the time I was there, we had no power but there were trucks and crews in the area so I knew it was just a matter of time.
Anyway, I just found out a couple of minutes ago that we finally have power. I don’t know about cable, internet and phone but I guess I’ll find out tomorrow.
I’m ready to get life back to normal…

Glad everything is ok. Sorry about the tree, but at least it isn’t too bad. I know it can always be worse so keep your chin up as best as you can.
Love the blog.

Glad to hear things are going okay for you. How are you doing on gas down there? Up here in Asheville, NC the gas shortage has gotten even worse this past week and we are now nearly completely out. There are abandoned cars littering the sides of roads and people lining up for miles just hoping to get some gas. I got lucky this morning and my little brother was able to bring me a few gallons so that I could get into the office, which I then packed completely up and brought back home with me. I’m prepared to work indefinitely from here and ready to walk the mile or so to the store if needed. It has been absolutely crazy here.

I don’t know where you live but I live in Houston, and it is STILL a huge mess! I am very happy you have power back…..mine is scheduled to be back by Sunday. There are way worse things then no electricity. Thank goodness we are alive and healthy!
Take care.

Down southwest of Houston we have had power for quite a while i.e. Sunday after the storm. But then my cable tv and internet went out Thursday After the storm and has been out since. It is mildly annoying but I feel a little guilt calling and complaining about just that.
I guess cable is more annoying because you pay for it even if you are not able to use it where as power is not being paid for if it is shut off.
@Adam Down here we are so close to where the gas comes in we get it back quickly, honestly I have not had any problems with getting gas. It is running from $3.33 to $3.79 and I can pull right into stations to get gas. We only had a problem when everyone didn’t prepare and stations had no power to pump the gas out of tanks so people went crazy. I waited a couple extra days and had no problem getting gas. Best of luck to you and sorry y’all are having problems up there.

Glad there was no major damage. Losing a tree sucks, but at least it didn’t fall on your house. Ditto on Adam’s comments about the gas shortage across the southeast. I’ve never seen anything like it.
