OT: What Does “Restaurant-Quality Pasta” Mean?
By JLP | December 18, 2008
Have you seen the Pizza Hut Tuscani Pasta commercials? I found one of the commercials on YouTube but it wasn’t the one I was thinking of.
Anyway, one of the commercials actually states, “…restaurant-quality pasta.”
What does “restaurant-quality pasta” mean? Isn’t Pizza Hut a restaurant? What does this say about Pizza Hut? To me it says, “We know our food usually sucks but this pasta is really good. It tastes just like restaurant food.”
I’d like to meet the marketing guru who came up with that one!
Oh, and by-the-way, I tried the pasta and it isn’t that great. I found it more “frozen-food quality.”

It means there are a lot of bad restaurants out there.
I think the primary target is for the lazy who want cheap delivered food but are tired of pizza. Not that I’m not part of this demographic…
Have you tried those Bertolli pasta-in-a-bags? They’re not that bad.

heh. I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one who raised an eyebrow when Pizza Hut described their pasta as such.

IF Pizza hut’s pasta is restaurant quality then it means, really bad, taste like Chef Boyardee quality.

I’m not much of a pizza hut fan, but a cold leftover slice of deep dish the morning after a long night out is the best breakfast ever.
I haven’t tried their pasta, but I can only assume it’s about as good as the pasta you’d get at a cheap catered wedding reception.

Hey, now – don’t be knocking one of our family’s favorite dishes. We order it when we feel like having actual “restaurant food” at home!! lol
I agree with you, though – bad marketing ploy. Also gave me a laugh tonight.

I think it means the pasta is:
1) pre-cooked
2) frozen
3) popped in the microwave for reheating

poor boomer expresses my thoughts exactly. No way are there any of those teenagers that typically work at take out pizza take-out places actually cooking the pasta from scratch. Frozen, reheated in the foil tray, transported to your house.

My brother worked at The Olive Garden, and according to him, their food was delivered to the restaurant frozen, which they microwaved (or possibly boiled) and then served to the customer. So I guess “restaurant quality” is probably similar to “tv dinner quality.”

I think maybe they were trying to replicate the marketing of the $6 burger at Carl’s Junior, but this doesn’t work. At all.
@TheMightyQuinn
Not that I eat at Olive Garden anymore, but that comment ensures that I will avoid going there as much as possible.

It means about the same as ‘gourmet’ on a frozen food bag.. costs more. But it’s still the same crappy food that you were eating before.
