Circuit City Unplugged

By JLP | January 16, 2009

I just read that Circuit City is closing all their remaining stores.

It’s sad actually. They JUST finished building a brand new store on the parking lot of our local mall. Now that brand-new building will sit vacant for who knows how long. It’s gonna sit there right in the middle of the parking lot. Empty.

What really makes this story sad is that they moved into their new store from their old store that was across the street. Their former location is still vacant.

I remember going to Circuit City when they first opened in our town. They used to have an amazing selection of CDs. They also sold appliances back when they first opened. They quit selling appliances several years ago and also quit carrying most of their CDs and basically became a TV/Computer store. That’s it. I quit going there. Looks like everyone else will too.

“Looks like everyone else will too.”

Don’t you think that the correct statement is,

“Looks like everyone did will too.”?

    Maybe its because CC sucked?

Read all about it here: http://moaph.blogspot.com/2007/12/terrible-experience-with-circuit-city.html

They really, really, really didn’t want my business.

Couldn’t be they didn’t know how to run their business. There were several times I ordered items online for in-store delivery. They have(had) a guarantee that it will be ready within 23 minutes or you get $23 back. EVERY time I ordered online they could not meet the 23 minute deadline. Saved me a lot of money. The people at our local store did not know what they were doing.

Best Buy will be the next one to go. They are just as bad if not worse the CC. They pull bait and switch crap all the time, try to sell people expensive unnecessary cables, etc… Whenever I see that going on, I always tell the customers not to buy them. I have been asked to leave a few times, but I can’t stand to see people who don’t know anything about electronics being taken advantage of. Best Buy has been in trouble with Attorney General’s offices of many states. They will be next for sure if they keep up the shady business practices. I don’t buy anything from them anymore, I go there to look at the products then buy them online for cheaper.

I remember when they came out with this Divx format. I thought that was the worst idea every and well, so did everyone else. They lost $114 million just on that mistake alone.

Do you know if they are going to have some going out of business sales? I would love to take advantage of last minute deals.

About Best Buy/ CC and others…part of it is the manufacturers who take advantage of folks too.

Best Buy sells (I couldn’t make this up if I wanted to) a TOSLINK(S/PDIF) optical audio cable that has gold plated connectors.

Think about that for a second (if you don’t know anything about optical audio, it is a piece of plastic known as ‘fiber optics’ that doesn’t require any metal connection what so ever)…gold plated. Cost? $30. Actual cost of real TOSLINK cables? $0.01 at basically any cable store.

I don’t really shop at Circuit City but have gone there a few times. I thought the store itself look pretty gloomy inside. I was wondering what took them so long to shut their doors down. I still feel bad for the workers.

Best Buy is more warm and inviting. Circuit City never understood that the design, layout of stores along with the pricing of merchandise matters to consumers.
