Resources for ETF Investors

By JLP | October 5, 2009

Today’s Wall Street Journal’s Quarterly Funds section, contained an article on Resources for ETF investors. Some of these websites charge for services but most of them offer some free information. Their choices:

MORNINGSTAR (morningstar.com/goto/etfs)

YAHOO FINANCE (finance.yahoo.com/etf)

MARKETWATCH (marketwatch.com/tools/etfs/html-home.asp)

INDEX UNIVERSE (indexuniverse.com)

ETF TRENDS (etftrends.com)

ETF GUIDE (etfguide.com)

ETF DATABASE (etfdb.com)

I’ll also add these two sites, which I think are very helplful:

iShares.com

Select Sector SPDRs

Thank you for the information ETF’s are great – with a large portfolio. I had a friend with just a few $1000 want to invest in ETF’s — extremely expensive because of brokerage fees.
I personally like to use Morningstar they have fantastic information.

    it didn’t work for me.

My portfolio is about 70% ETF’s. It would be more but there are no ETF options in my 401k. Personally I like indexuniverse the best. Its free and gives me the same information I need as Morningstar. Here is a link that may work better.

    http://www.indexuniverse.com/

I tried the free trial period for Morningstar and aside from the x-ray tool I did not find anything more than what I can find at indexuniverse. I mean aside from fees, what really differentiates one index fund from another?

Finally, I disagree with Investment Strategy Expert on ETFs and fees. By using a discount broker, or better yet, qualifying for a PMA account at Wells Fargo and getting 100 free trades, ETF’s can be purchased in small quantities with low fees.
