to be 40-years old.

Something about that number just seems strange.

A bottle of Geritol probably will help. :-)

You’ll get used to it. Welcome to the club.

Next year for me. My hard year was 38 because of the realization that 40 is coming up. I figure 40 will be no big deal since I went through the same cycle with 30 (upset at 29, not so much at 30).

Must be your birthday so have a happy one. Being 40 is a matter of perspective — to be 40 (again) would feel great to me, not “weird!” But have fun anyway and don’t let a number get you down. At 47 I still play basketball 6 mornings a week for exercise and plan to do so for many years to come.

Is it your birthday? Happy Birthday if so, Old Man. LOL. I had no trouble turning 40 and didn’t feel weird – well, no weirder than usual, anyway. After that, it was downhill. I had to get READING GLASSES, and started out at 1.25 strength. I’m 50 now, and use 3 strength for reading. I don’t even think they sell a higher strength at the drugstore! It’s definitely one of the worst things about getting older, because it is such a nuisance to have to dig out the glasses all the time. Oh yeah, another thing I didn’t do until after 40 was dye my hair. I can’t see why people do that for fun. It isn’t so hard to do, since I only do it every season, but it’s kinda sad to feel like you have to. That’s not necessarily not a guy thing, because I think some men do not like grey hair either. Of course, it’s better than no hair ;)

Yes… Wait until you hit 50. I wanted last year to go sooo slowly. Same when I was 39. But as a friend of mine said – not sure whom he quoted – “getting old is not that bad when you consider the alternative”.

I still manage without glasses – I actually was able to get rid of “corrective lenses” driving restriction a few years ago as my slight near sightedness improved. But small print became near impossible to read; I can still read books but not those bargain editions with small print. Will probably need reading glasses soon. I went gray early though – had to dye my hair since I was in my mid-30s. How I hate having to dye my hair… Yana – I am with you on not understanding how people do it for fun. I am going to a salon now, used to do it myself, but a couple of times I messed up so badly, I looked like a calico cat: bought a darker shade by accident, but didn’t cover reddish shade I used before completely. Got all black with red spots, had to have it corrected. Since then I’ve been going to a salon.
I am often dragging my feet on that and my roots start showing more and more.

JLP – be happy you are not a woman and don’t have to worry about the menopause.

Oh and totally forgot – must be my age – HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Happy Birthday! Every milestone I kinda feel the same way, but I don’t REALLY feel different. I mean, I still feel like I should be in that key “young person” demographic that I’m no longer a part of :) Anyway, I hope it was a great day – and happy belated 5th blogoversary too!

The weird part will be when you go to your doctor for your annual medical and he sticks his hand where the sun don’t shine.

Here’s hoping that your family doesn’t have the same twisted sense of humor that my sibling does – he made a 1 foot mini coffin with my birth date to 30th birthday and the tag “TH’s Youth” on the little name tag! lol

    Happy belated birthday!

Happy Birthday JLP! After a while it starts getting better. I turn 55 in December and can start getting senior citizen discounts at restaurants. See what I mean?
