Question of the Day: Who’s Your Favorite CEO?

By JLP | September 1, 2010

ANNOUNCEMENT: Today’s the last day to enter for your chance to win a copy of The Road Out of Debt. I’ll announce the winner tomorrow morning.

Here’s is today’s Question of the Day:

Who is your favorite CEO?

I would have to say that mine is Warren Buffett. I like him because he tells it like it is (read his Shareholder Letters). If they had a bad year, he tells you that they had a bad year. It’s refreshing.

Runner up to Mr. Buffett is Herb Kelleher, retired CEO of Southwest Airlines. He had a sense of humor and ran a very successful airline. Most of all, he never had to go jail (yet)…lol.

What about you? Who is your favorite CEO? Why?

Alan Mulally. Since I work for a Ford dealership
I am a bit biased. We were definitely headed in the wrong direction with the company prior to him coming on board. Was ahead of the game with the turnaround prior to the recession and not letting the government in the door to control the company was the right decision and it is paying off with the traffic through the showroom these days.

Hands down: Samuel Truett Cathy CEO of Chick-fil-A.

Buffet is just another lobbyist getting the taxpayer to bail out his investments.

“Chainsaw” Al Dunlap (how can you not like a guy nicknamed “Chainsaw)…. no wait…. Bob Nardelli (no on can run a business into the ground faster)…. no wait…. Jeff “I Melt Money” has done wonders for GE…. no wait….

Actually my all time favorite was Herb Kelleher of Southwest Air…… if I had to pick a current CEO it would be Steve Jobs for his perfectionism and constant innovation (though I own no Apple computers and dislike paying the premium for iPods).

    Biz,

My wife bought me the 160GB Classic iPod in 2008. I LOVE IT! Best gift ever (for me). I have under 4 gigabytes of empty space left.

A CEO I admire is Jim Goodnight of SAS. In addition to running a highly regarded company within the business analytics industry, Mr. Goodnight and team have been recognized for their positive attitudes toward social responsibility and their treatment and recognition of employees. It is great to see organizations that effectively balance the challenge of growing a business while providing increasing value to all internal and external stakeholders.
