Like most things, the correct place is somewhere between the two extremes. There are many aspects of the US that are “socialistic” (military, postal system, police / fire departments just to name a few). And there are “capitalistic” aspects as well: free market economy being the most obvious.
However, all aspects are regulated by our Democratic-form of government (as opposed to a dictatorship).
Going back to the video, a “meet in the middle approach” when it comes to exams is when professors “grade on a curve” — which was quite common when I got my degree, and assume is still prevalent.
