It’s Been a Rough Year for the Dow Jones Transportation Index

This year has been rather rough on the Dow Jones Transportation Index. As of Friday’s close, the index is down 13.5% YTD. The average YTD return for the 20 components of the index is -8.7%. Of the twenty components, only four are up on the year. The average YTD return for those four stocks is 22.9%. Unfortunately, the average return for the other 16 stocks is -16.7%.
